  • Eh- the work computer blocks this site so I'll have to check it out when I get home. Thanks for the offer, MikehlJohnson!

  • Wow, sweet! Thanks a lot! This will come in handy for sure, sooner or later! :)

  • ON it!  :) thanks

  • Whew, that was a ton of downloading. Thanks. Gonna take a while to browse through it and see what is there.

If you look on the sonnis page link here you can download a track listing. http://www.sonniss.com/gameaudiogdc2016/

  • Track listings were in the ZIPs but I cannot hear a listing. I should have said, browse through it and hear what is there.

  • Triem23Triem23 Moderator

    Fair 'nuff. I'm still downloading.

  • You're my new favorite person.  Always on the lookout for new SFX for the library.  Will be picking this up tonight!

  • Triem23Triem23 Moderator

Mikhel--great file structure on the downloads. Sometimes when companies are nice enough to give away a ton of SFX, things are organized poorly, indeed.

  • @MikehlJohnson, many thanks for your generous offer!

  • Aladdin4dAladdin4d Moderator

+1 on the organization! Not only is your offer of free stuff fantastic but you went the extra mile of making it really easy to integrate all of it into pretty much any kind of media management scheme. Thank you Thank You Thank You!

  • Extremely generous and very welcomed. Thank you!

  • Thank you :)

To clarify, 100% everything free to use?

And how exactly would you like to see the credits written?

  • Triem23Triem23 Moderator

@Yeremeyah the download packages contain the License information, but, in short, it's all free to use, no accreditation required.

These downloads are a big sampler pack--looks like it's a selection of a few SFX from each of Sonniss's full library collections. Haven't had nearly enough time to listen to them all, but everything I have checked out so far has been high-quality stuff. Fantastic of Sonniss to do this giveaway!

A word of advice to others. Some of these files have very long names. Don't bury things too deep in the file structure--I've actually gotten error messages that I am exceeding the maximum character length for file structures! This goofs my organization scheme for now.

  • I've have gotten to file path spec too long error message. I intend to do a bit of renaming on certain items and folders.

I agree the offerings are very high quality and I am not talking about sample rate or bit depth. There is a huge/varied range of material offered in these downloads.

I didn't have any problems with the file path, but I did have an issue trying to extract a bunch of the directories from soniss_gdc.zip - I'd simply copied the entire contents to my FX folder and like ten or twelve folders simply refused to copy properly.  They'd report success, but then the filesize would show as 0 bytes in Explorer and the file wouldn't play.  When I extracted the offending directories with 7-zip, they worked fine.  Weird.

Anyway, thanks again for this; it's really hard to find good sci-fi FX that don't sound like goofy space serials from the 30s.  Not that there's anything wrong with that, but, y'know.  Variety.

MikehlJohnson - the licensing file says that it's forbidden to "modify the files in order to violate the licensing agreement".  If I want to remix them in order to make new FX for use in my movies (but obviously not sell or redistribute) this is ok, yes?

  • Triem23Triem23 Moderator

@SteveKarstensen that provision probably means "don't remix our stuff and resell it as yours." It wouldn't apply to mixing your s soundtrack.

  • Thanks for the great comments guys, it's genuinely appreciated. We only source the best material at Sonniss. Hopefully you can put to them some good use.

The first pack we created last year had a few mistakes. Learned many lessons and had to spawn 4 new servers this year to keep up with demand. It has been an interesting journey so far.

There is a license file in every pack, however: http://www.sonniss.com/gdc-bundle-license/ (this is the main license and it does allow modification, changes, and everything else you need without request).

It is what it is, - No catches, no gimmicks, just high quality source material that you can use and distribute freely, personally or commercially. It's pretty much a sample pack of half of the libraries on Sonniss. If you like what you hear, please consider purchasing their corresponding collection.

    :)

  • "soniss_gdc.zip...  When I extracted the offending directories with 7-zip, they worked fine.  Weird."

I saw the same thing on my machine. Windows 7. That zip file is 8+GB in size. The Windows explorer ZIP file support has problems with very large ZIP files. Any folders/files beyond the limit explorer supported would have problems. Anything before that boundary is fine. I did not measure it but I'll bet the boundary is 4GB. 7-zip has no such issue with massive ZIPs.

  • Wow - this is awesome - thanks a bunch!!

FYI though, in the August 2015

    http://private.sonniss.com/sonniss_monthly_august2015.zip

file, I can't play the files in the "Sonniss.com - Game Audio Monthly - #5\The Soundcatcher -  Cloth Foley" folder - they extract, but the files won't play.  Everything I've checked in other folders and zip files has been fine.

Has anyone else been able to play those files?

    Darren.

Yeah, I have found a few glitches, but after 30GB of free media, I won't complain.

  • Gracias amigo!!!!

  • Wow, thank you very much.  I am always looking for stuff to use in the future.  Bookmarked your page, too.

Do you have any sound like this sound in this video, at: 4 seconds, like a crackling/breaking sound?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8M1rgBSSbo

    Thank you :)

  • @Yeremyah if you don't manage to get hold of any stock audio for that, it sounds simple enough to record yourself.
Get yourself some nails and metal filings, and a couple of pellets and layer the audio on top of one another (safely, of course)

  • Thank you Kirstie, however I did find a sound ;)

  • Never seen this much love on the internet, i'm super shocked and still can't believe it. just stumbled on hitfilm and it looks like the only way forward.

  • @kelvinfx - Muah-hahahahahahahah!!!!! We have you now!!!!

    oops- was that out loud?
