Music Video - Copy Past Clips Crashes Hitfilm Pro - Every Time

Hi, is there a fix for a bug that causes Hitfilm Pro to crash to desktop or BSOD whenever I right-click-copy on a clip then right-click-paste onto anyplace on any open track?

Aside from 8 crashes for no apparent reason in the past 3 days to trying Pro, and 3 BSOD crashes (it's so bad that the error code is turned into snow across the blue screen)
When every I try to just copy paste a clip or do very simple "supported features" that I'm seriously thinking that De Vincie Resolve 14 might be a better path for me. Plus, their editing UI is much more polished, feature rich and elegant than Hitfilm seems to be.

I'm really wanting to love Hitfilm, but it's keeps whacking me in the face while I'm trying to work with it.

Are others having a better or similar experience?

Win10 (all patches/updates), i7-4770K 4Ghz, 16GB RAM, GTX 650, 1TB SSD sytem 16TB work with 6TB free.

  • You listed your system specs, but not the specs of the footage you're editing.  If you don't already have MediaInfo installed, get it now, then open it and drop one of the clips you're using for editing into it.  Switch the view to Text mode, then copy the info you see and paste it into a reply here.  The video whizzes in the group can look at that info and might have some suggestions based on what they see.

    On a general note, HitFilm can be picky when it comes to how video files are encoded, and it's definitely in your best interest to consider transcoding footage prior to editing.  Before I learned about transcoding, I had lots of crashes while editing.  After I started transcoding, they've all but disappeared.  This video from @Triem23 explains the hows and whys of transcoding if you're not already familiar:

    Thanks for the quick response!

    Yes, I am familiar with transcoding, but I've not ever been successful in any of my attempts to transcode any of my footage so that it would work with HFExpress or Express 2017 in the past. (yes, I've read and tried the suggested settings in threads here and elsewhere).

    So I decided to try HFPro's trail since it says it supports .MOV files natively and I don't want to install quicktime on my work computer (Apple software on Windows platforms has never been a stable mix in my experience, I'm looking at you iTunes and Quicktime discontinued support with security holes in your Win Software ;-). yes, I know you are supposed to be able to install the software, then uninstall it and just leave the codec but... I'm in-inspired by depending on an old codec that is no longer supported. Why go backwards when forwards is so full of new "adventure"!


    Anyway, they are Nikon D7000 .MOV files, they work flawlessly in Pinnacle Studio 14 through 20.
