HDSLR Rig help

edited August 2011 in Filmmaking
I'm looking for my first rig, and I was thinking it would be a good cheap solution to custom build my own?]
I was thinking
-Cowboystudios shoulder rig
http://www.amazon.com/CowboyStudio-Shoulder-Support-Camcorder-Camera/dp/B0036NMQ7S/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1313976001&sr=1-5
-Manfrotto Quick Release
http://www.amazon.com/Manfrotto-323-Connect-Adapter-200PL-14/dp/B001ASU1QO/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1313976066&sr=1-1
- Rod Clamp
- 12 inch Rods
- Cheese Plate
- 2 handles
This is just for starts
I would Later add Matte Box, Follow Focus maybe toss out the Cowboystudio mount.
But my question is what are the cheapest 15mm rods and cheese plate? And best place to order them from

  • I use the opteka X-grip, it hs a hot shoe on the top where you can get an adaptor so it can hold a microphone, or you can use a flash in it. It is not a shoulder one though (it is on amazon)
  • Also, with the x grip, you can hold it up against your shoulder for more stability, and it's awesome for low swooping shots
