Ambient occlusion map uses

Hi,

I have been useing Blender 3D a lot recently, and today when I was watching a tutoral about composing the persion mentioned getting ambient occlusion maps to use in HitFilm or after effects. Dose anyone know what ambient occlusion maps are and how they are used in compositing?

Thanks,

Ambient occlusion maps aee white renders that contain the shadow data generated when two objects are in proximity (ambient occlusion is a type of shadow.

Load it up and set it to Multiply over your diffuse render.

This is only meaningful if you're doing full multi pass renders for diffuse, specular, shadow, reflection, etc.
