Replicating an AE Shadow Removal Tutorial

Hey guys,

I'm very certain we're able to replicate the technique in this AE tutorial, but I was thinking that perhaps a seasoned Hitfilm vet could help with this as I'm still learning.

Would appreciate if any of you could help.

You can pretty much follow the tutorial step by step just remember adjustment layers in HitFilm are called Grade layers

  • Can you please explain to me how can I implement the Luma Inverted matte?

    It's around 2:55

  • @Hictor  I'm not certain here but I'm going to hazard a guess that you add set matte effect then in the control you select the source layer and under it is matte source and the drop down has a bunch of options one being luminance. Select that and then at the very bottom of the controls is an invert check box.  I quickly check this out with Pro2017 but I am not sure if set matte is available in other versions.  But something to play with until someone with more knowledge gets back to you.

@tddavis called it. In Hitfilm use the Set Matte effect anytime an Ae tutorial uses a Track Matte. If the matte doesn't work as expected, put the Matte source into an embedded Composite Shot.
