Will SLI Improve Performance?

I currently have a slightly dated graphics card, though it seems to work OK for the little I've done so far in HF (factory overclocked GTX260).
Would I see any benefit from running an SLI setup (2 or more GTX260s). I can grab 2 more matching 260s for a lot less than a single 400 series right now.
Or would I be better off just spending more on a single 400 series card (certainly can't justify the cost of the 500 series for a hobby).

    Hi,
I think for now you'd be best off getting a 400 series card. I currently run HitFilm on a 480GTX & it runs great, so for me I would pick up a 400 series card.
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply, Ady :)
I am still curious, though ... does SLI help with HF, or is that just something for gaming?
  • Hi CMO,
SLI is very gaming specific, just like multi-core GPUs. While a 400 series card would be amazing, your GTX260 is still a decent card and you will see speed improvements over the next few months.
We have worked hard to add in all the features required of a great compositing/vfx program and we are now working on making them faster and more optimised.
Really loving the signature by the way! I started programming on an Apple II Europlus system - is that IIc still working? :)

It sure is. I still have working copies of all my high school term papers from the 80's, short stories and musings on 5.25s under the BARD format :)) I've also still got an OkiData dot matrix printer for it (no ribbons though). Of course, none of it is plugged in right now - it' been boxed in a store room for a while. I don't usually hold on to things this long, but I thought this might be a collector's item some day. Hard to believe that most digital wrist watches have more computing power today.
